Dr. Ashley Bernauer
BSc(Hons.), DVM, GDVA

Dr. Ashley Bernauer grew up on a small farm in Armstrong, BC with a menagerie of animals - she knew from a young age that her calling was to work with animals. After finishing a Bachelor’s of Science Degree with Honours in Kamloops, BC at Thompson River University, she attended the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon. Ashley graduated as a DVM with Distinction in 2012. Vancouver Island is where she has called home since then. She lives on a small farm with her husband Matt, young daughter Alice and a crew of misfit animals - two dogs named Chicken and Pizza, and two horses named Ralphie and Koala. On her spare time, Ashley can be found spending time with her family, playing in the garden, hiking the trails, doing yoga, or experimenting with cooking or canning in the kitchen.

Dr. Ashley bought Qualicum Beach Animal Hospital in 2015, when it was just a little tiny vet clinic with three staff members. The hospital has since grown significantly, but still has the “small town feel”. Ashley is an integrative veterinarian who believes in using a blend of Western and complementary medicine to treat her patients - this may include modalities such as Western or Chinese herbs, food therapy, acupuncture, laser and PEMF therapy. She continues to further her education in integrative medicine and has recently achieved designation of Graduate Diploma in Veterinary Acupuncture (GDVA) from the College of Integrative Veterinary Therapies.

Ashley is grateful to be able to call Qualicum Beach home and to work with a group of amazing progressive and compassionate veterinary staff.
